Abstract Programmable proximity aperture lithography (PPAL) with MeV ions has been used in Jyvaskyla and Chiang Mai universities for a number of years. Here we describe a number of innovations and procedures that have been incorporated into the LabView-based software. The basic operation involves the coordination of the beam blanker and five motor-actuated translators with high accuracy, close to the minimum step size with proper anti-collision algorithms. Few epidemiologic studies have explored risk factors for bone tumors in children, and the role of environmental factors needs to be analyzed. Our objective was to ascertain the association between residential proximity to industrial plants and urban areas and risk of bone tumors in children, taking into account industrial groups and toxic pollutants released. Bootstrap validation of links of a minimum spanning tree

We describe two different bootstrap methods applied to the detection of a minimum spanning tree obtained from a set of multivariate variables. We show that two different bootstrap procedures provide partly distinct information that can be highly informative about the investigated complex system. Our case study, based on the investigation of daily returns of a portfolio of stocks traded in the US equity markets, shows the degree of robustness and completeness of the information extracted with popular information filtering methods such as the minimum spanning tree and the planar maximally filtered graph. The purpose of this article is to compute a global minimizer of the function $$x\longrightarrow d(x, Tx)$$ , where T is a proximal cyclic contraction in the framework of a best proximally complete space, thereby ensuring the existence of an optimal approximate solution, called a best proximity point, to the equation $$Tx=x$$ when T is not necessarily a self-mapping.

A best proximity point approach to existence of solutions for a system of ordinary differential equations

We establish the existence of a solution for the following system of differential equations (y x ′′((t t ) ) = = g f ((t t ,y x ((t t )) )) ,y x ((t t 0 0) ) = = x x *** in the space of all bounded and continuous real functions on [0, +∞[. We use best proximity point methods and measure of noncompactness theory under suitable assumptions on f and g. Some new best proximity point theorems play a key role in the above result.
