A note on best proximity point theory using proximal contractions
2018
In this paper, a reduction technique is used to show that some recent results on the existence of best proximity points for various classes of proximal contractions can be concluded from the corresponding results in fixed point theory.
Best proximity point theorems for proximal cyclic contractions
2017
The purpose of this article is to compute a global minimizer of the function $$x\longrightarrow d(x, Tx)$$ , where T is a proximal cyclic contraction in the framework of a best proximally complete space, thereby ensuring the existence of an optimal approximate solution, called a best proximity point, to the equation $$Tx=x$$ when T is not necessarily a self-mapping.
Detection, Analysis, and Quantification of GPCR Homo- and Heteroreceptor Complexes in Specific Neuronal Cell Populations Using the In Situ Proximity …
2018
GPCR’s receptosome operates via coordinated changes between the receptor expression, their modifications and interactions between each other. Perturbation in specific heteroreceptor complexes and/or their balance/equilibrium with other heteroreceptor complexes and corresponding homoreceptor complexes is considered to have a role in pathogenic mechanisms. Such mechanisms lead to mental and neurological diseases, including drug addiction, depression, Parkinson’s disease, and schizophrenia. To understand the associations of GPCRs and to unravel the global picture of their receptor–receptor interactions in the brain, different experimental detection techniques for receptor–receptor interactions…
15 Minute City Concept. A Glance at the Palermo Case Study
2022
Giving people opportunities for green technology and offering them new transportation modes are not sufficient methods for the transition to a sustainable mobility model. With the increasing importance of time, minimizing the daily travel time of people seems to be one of the crucial steps to be taken. 15 Minute City is one of the latest popular concepts assuring to reduce daily travel time and improve quality of life while enhancing environmental conditions. This paper will have a look at the concept regarding the case study of Palermo, one of the cities with the most intense traffic problems in Europe.
Speech Perception: Phonological Neighborhood Effects on Word Recognition Persist Despite Semantic Sentence Context
2019
This study tested the hypothesis that two lexical properties, both phonological neighborhood density (ND) and neighborhood frequency (NF), influence the recognition of target words when preceded by either a semantically congruent or semantically neutral context. Our study is the first to test this hypothesis using a language other than English (i.e., Spanish). We used highly familiar bisyllabic nouns with medium-frequency occurrence as target words, and we expected recognition accuracy to increase as ND and NF decreased in both semanticallly congruent and semantically neutral sentences. We presented 48 undergraduate listeners with a set of 80 words, differing in ND and NF, within these two…
Best approximation and variational inequality problems involving a simulation function
2016
We prove the existence of a g-best proximity point for a pair of mappings, by using suitable hypotheses on a metric space. Moreover, we establish some convergence results for a variational inequality problem, by using the variational characterization of metric projections in a real Hilbert space. Our results are applicable to classical problems of optimization theory.
Introduction. A nagging thought of a scholar
2019
This paper is – as introduction of volume “Proximity violence in migration times” – is the result of the nagging thought of a scholar and the support the European Commission decided to provide her with in order to favour the theoretical challenge the project envisaged and allowing her to conduct these two years of research supported by a network of partners comprising universities, research centres and non-profit organisations. It is the product of a combined, reasoned in-the-field research and desk analysis regarding recognition and reception of refugee-asylum seekers, victims of violence within their places of origin, during the journey to the European states bordering on the Mediterranea…
Organizational information and communication technologies and their influence on communication visibility and perceived proximity
2021
This study investigates the relationships between the use of various organizational ICTs, communication visibility, and perceived proximity to distant colleagues. In addition, this study examines the interplay between visibility and proximity, to determine whether visibility improves proximity, or vice versa. These relationships are tested in a global company using two waves of panel survey data. ESM use increases communication visibility and perceived proximity, while controlling for prior levels of visibility, proximity, and the use of other organizational ICTs. The influence of ESM on network translucence and perceived proximity is generally stronger than the impact of other technologie…
Association between residential proximity to environmental pollution sources and childhood renal tumors
2016
FI=3.835 (año 2016), Q1 Background: Few risk factors for childhood renal tumors are well established. While a small fraction of cases might be attributable to susceptibility genes and congenital anomalies, the role of environmental factors needs to be assessed. Objectives: To explore the possible association between residential proximity to environmental pollution sources (industrial and urban areas, and agricultural crops) and childhood renal cancer, taking into account industrial groups and toxic substances released. Methods: We conducted a population-based case-control study of childhood renal cancer in Spain, including 213 incident cases gathered from the Spanish Registry of Childhood T…
